I'm pretty sure he promised me a baby raptor

At the moment, I'm working on a scrapbook page layout with pictures from my Universal Studios trip on Saturday. I would be remiss if I didn't at least explain a little bit. Those of you who are Facebook friends with me may have noticed my relationship status changed oh, about a month ago. I sort of alluded to it in the new beginnings blog post. (Go look, I'll wait.) Well, I'm dating Doug. That might be kind of obvious. I mean, he let me use his camera at Universal.

We're kind of cute when we're about to get eaten by dinosaurs. And lens flare just adds to our appeal. Really, I'm only mentioning it as an excuse to post this photo.

margaritas and truffula trees

On Saturday, we went to Universal Studios. Obviously, I did not bring my camera with me. You can choose to believe that either a) we were having a trial separation or b) I didn't want to spend the whole day worrying about her getting wet/broken/lost/I am freaking out just thinking about all the possibilities! I did, however, manage to coax Doug into letting me hold his camera for the day. And by 'hold', I mean that 75% of the photos taken were by me and I was in the other 25%. (I'm an addict, ok?)

This is a truffula tree.

If you know me, you know I am writing my senior thesis on the Lorax. These are the trees that were turned into thneeds (you know you need a thneed!). They have a special place in my heart (the trees, not the thneeds!)

I love Seuss Landing.

And just to be different, here's Doug and I rocking out at Margaritaville.

He found his 'lost shaker of salt'. I found a virgin piƱa colada. And we both sang along to "Fins" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise".

the end of the backlog

I get the feeling I'm spending almost as much time trying to write the description for this as I did leading up to this post. I am excited to announce that I am finally finished with the monstrous backlog from the Sea World trip which means... I can start shooting again!

Part of me is disappointed. After all, going through all of the photos was calming. Especially when I found myself gazing at graceful manatees and stoic wood storks.

Another part of me is excited to share some of the more interesting encounters I had, such as coming face-to-face with a moray eel.

There is more than a little pride at some of the interesting split toning experiments that came out of sitting at my desk for so long.

But I believe what I feel the most is that rather than enjoying the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, it is time to go chasing more rainbows.

confessions

I despise having a backlog. I feel guilty if I don’t work through all my photos on my computer before I take new ones. I am trying to get through them all so I can shoot new stuff. (Ok, I’m shooting new stuff but haven’t edited it yet because I’m mildly neurotic. Eep!)

I read a ton of photo blogs but they’re almost all portraiture. My favorites are the wedding posts. I have a weakness for wedding photography. I aspire to one day feel confident enough to shoot a wedding. I’m considering a frog wedding (literally, two frogs) as a conceptual piece but two people in love is the holy grail for me. I'm not really a huge fan of 'people pictures' when I'm behind the camera but stuff like this makes my heart sing.

I’m sort of trying to keep my personal life off the blog. (Ironic, isn’t it?) There won’t be any snapshots of me dressed up silly.

I actually wrote this post before I added the pictures and then had to integrate the photos in to make the post flow.

EDIT: I'm not sure what to say exactly, other than that one of my photos is on the University Press website. :)

new beginnings and ice cream!

I swear, the title just came to me. I'm totally not playing on the significance of the event or anything.

Yesterday (*gasp* a timely entry? no way!) was the farewell to President Brogan ice cream social and hopefully... my first day as the Jupiter photo correspondent for University Press! Need I say more?

In the photo on the left, you can see a somewhat overexposed Austin. He is the words to my pictures (no really, he's the campus writer) and apparently washes out easily under harsh flash.

Mostly unrelated but sort of under the new beginnings umbrella, I am now addicted to Sonic and intend to make Doug and Javi take me all the time.

What? Did you think this photo came with real news?

jumping through hoops isn't like jumping rope, is it?

Ok, so my choice of a photo might be a stretch. But a) this is as far as I've gotten on my backlog and b) I feel like I'm jumping through hoops. Not like this though.

jumping tricks

Is everyone impressed with my series on humans jumping rope with sea lions? Good. Because posting may become slightly uh... scarce for a while.

Simply put, school is very time consuming and...
and...
and...

I have a field interview tomorrow to be the Jupiter campus photographer for University Press.

I'm never going to go through all my Sea World pictures, am I?
